Curated by Shaunak Mahbubani, the artist’s first solo exhibition showcases a body of work created over eight years. Through the artworks, the artist channels the thoughts of Chicana writer Gloria Anzaldúa, who asks, “We speak in tongues like the outcast and the insane…how dare we reveal the human flesh underneath.” Here, subverting these patriarchal constraints, Borah deploys the raw power of abstract figuration to claim her own voice.
Borah’s paintings and drawings portray the pressure of the big city and the emotional struggle of a young artist navigating the opaque corridors of the art world. Her work is deeply intuitive and inspired by personal experiences. In one series, she constructs painted bodies using consumer objects. Through her art, Borah underscores the importance of creative expression in a fractured world. Her works are charged emblems of creative alchemy and resilient acts of love.
