Event excerpt

On display are watercolour pats belonging to the 19th and early 20th century Bengal —both religious and secular in their subjects—placed against comparable works across the genres of commissioned oil painting and mass-produced prints. By exposing iconography, the exhibition attempts to unravel part of Calcutta’s history, its culture, class biases and gendered hierarchies.
