Event excerpt

The exhibition marks the opening of the ARTHOUSE—a dedicated space for visual arts at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre—and celebrates India’s diverse cultural impulses and traditions.

Curated by Ranjit Hoskote and Jeffrey Deitch, the inaugural exhibition showcases artworks by ten Indian and International artists.

For centuries, South Asia has been at the forefront of cultural multiplicity, making society proficient in breaking the language barrier time and again, in contrast to the European socio-linguistic backdrop where the idea of a ‘mother tongue’ is prominent. ‘Sangam/Confluence’ uses this metaphor to think about how artists do not confine themselves to a singular art-making language, medium, or style—but, rather, range across a spectrum of possibilities.
